Sunday School Schedule…

  Feb. 6 -   John 4 - Why do Middle East countries HATE us, why are they burning our churches? We will begin with a report by Parker Rossman on a ten hour conversation he had with the Grand Mufti (the ‘archbishop’ of Muslims) in Damascus , Syria .

Feb. 13 - II Co. 5:19 - Reconciliation, a Christian perspective:  when does punishment work… at home, at school, with criminals, with rogue government, a requested discussion on Parker Rossman ’s book AFTER PUNISHMENT WHAT?

Feb. 20 -Psalm 69:28, Exodus 32:33, Rev.  3:5, 2:26. The scriptures used in the currently popular ‘left behind’ - Mark of the Beast- rapture movies and novels (topic asked for by a student).  Important to read the Bible through the loving and forgiving eyes of Jesus.

Feb 27 - I Cor. 2:9 - The Bible as an electronic textbook: welcome to the Internet where education can be provided for everyone in the world.  A look at the book BEYOND GUTENBERG.

March 6 - Joel 2:18 - The American dream, the European Dream (book by Rifkin) and a Christian dream for the world. Beginning with notes on a discussion led by Parker Rossman at an MU faculty seminar on January 27, 2005.

March 13 - Romans 12:20, Luke 6:25 - Arab Christians.   Dr. Rossman will begin by reporting the experiences he had when he taught Arab Christians from Syria and Palestine at the Balamand Greek Orthodox Theological School , Tripoli , Lebanon .  He will also share the story of a young woman from First Christian Church in Tucson who is now in Jerusalem helping Arab Christians define a Christian role amidst the terrorism in the Palestine-Israel conflict.  Report on some Muslim-Christian-Jewish efforts by the “We Refuse to be Enemies” organization and the University of Missouri initiated “faith and learning” collaboration that First Christian has voted to support.

March 20 - Palm Sunday - John 12:12 and the verses following. Mystery and humility, how can we understand the mind of God? Philippians 2.

March 27 - Easter. - The gospel according to John 11:17. ‘A  new look at the possibility of resurrection from Science, the Quantum theory.          

April 3 - II Peter, chapter 2 -False prophets today led off by Parker Rossman ’s Aug 2004 conversations with students in Eastern Europe who attended communist schools, a visit to a communist university and lessons for Christians from the communist experiment that once had students marching, singing and dreaming of a world with no poverty.

April 10 -  Abraham and Muslim-Jewish-Christian dialogue.

April 17 - Matt. 25 -Discussion of an article in the Heifer International magazine by an expert who points out that it is now possible to feed and provide safe drinking water for everyone in the world.

April 24 - Matt. 25 -Discussion on how it is now possible—and in the American self-interest— to provide health care to everyone in the world. (see Parker Rossman ’s online textbook draft on an MU server, with a report on a wealthy Disciple doctor’s mission to Haiti ). One’s lay mission to serve God in the quality of work: Book  HELPING PEOPLE CARE  ON THE JOB.

May 1- Some reading of the Old Testament. Does a loving God get angry?

May 8 - I Cor 13 - Half of U.S. marriages end in divorce, and not because of gay marriage. Despite all our Valentines, are marriages failing because of a failure to hear the gospel of love and what it means? Comparison to marriage in the Philippines and in the Middle East ( Syria and  Egypt ).

May15 - Bible book of Philemon, a surprising note, drugged child soldiers, the anti-slavery society on where slavery exists in the world today.

May 22 - Luke 11 - Harvard Medical School advocates prayer today
